Change a material's unit or type

The material gets a new unit or type, and you see what it affects before you save.

Change the unit

  1. 1In Production → Materials, click the material. On the Details card, open Unit and pick Metres, Pieces or Kilograms.
  2. 2Click Save in the save bar at the bottom of the page. If the material has lots, BOM lines or open material orders, a window lists them.
Each row shows what keeps its number under the new unit.
  3. 3Click Change unit.
ImportantQuantities in lots, BOM lines and material orders keep their number and take the new unit. A lot of 300 m becomes 300 pcs. To undo, change Unit back to the old unit.

Check the result

The message Material updated successfully appears. Unit or Type on the Details card shows the new value.

Other situations

Change the type

The material has the wrong type, for example Woven instead of Knitted.

  1. 1On the Details card, open Type, pick the new type and click Save.
  2. 2If the material has lots, BOM lines or open material orders, the window Change type to …? opens. Specification will show the fields of the new type. Values in the old type's fields stay saved. Click Change type.

If it does not work

  • After a unit change, Readiness lists Price unit matches material unit under Material order — the supplier price still uses the old unit. In Suppliers & pricing, click the three dots (⋮) at the end of the supplier's row and click Edit price. Set Priced per to the new unit and click Save price.
Next
  • Fill in the material specification — after a type change, the new type's fields are empty.
